Prey 14.6

thriller, thriller night… la la lalala la la, lala… beast about to strike… thriller, thriller night… la la lalala la la, lala… thing with forty eyes, girl…

Oh, hi! Sorry, didn’t see you there. Maybe I should get some extra eyes of my own.

So. Last time Weld and Skitter worked together to take on Mannequin and to a lesser extent Crawler. Neither of them are properly defeated yet, though now at least the other heroes have joined the fray. But Crawler’s coming to fuck them up.

I think this chapter is going to be very much a direct continuation of the last chapter, a part 2 of the Mannequin/Crawler battle (with more focus on Crawler). Eventually we might also make it to the second barrage of bombs. I wonder, will Taylor have to figure that out by seeing the heroes withdraw, or if someone who recognizes that Skitter doesn’t deserve to get blown to smithereens – Weld or Legend, I’m thinking – will show the courtesy of warning her, and maybe even help her get out of the blast zone. Or maybe she’ll have to find out the hard way.

I’m definitely hoping for the second option. I like both Legend and Weld for being genuinely good guys, and I’d like them to keep that up. I think Legend is still distracted by Siberian, but Weld at least ought to warn Taylor– fuck, I just remembered, Legend is probably still the only one who knows about the second wave before Piggot orders the retreat, isn’t he. Damn it.

Well. Guess it’s gonna be time to dance at some point.

For now, though, let’s jump in and try to do something about Crawler!

Prey 14.5

A comfortable chair, computer on my lap, music getting pumped into my ears, bombs primed to grievously harm characters I like… It’s time to read some Worm. 😀

So, last chapter, Taylor and co. started a daring escape from the PRT’s blast zone, during which Taylor acquired a really cool steed (whom I’ll be calling Bailey until we get an actual name for him).

Now, they need to make sure they actually are or quickly get out of it as the bombings start. This chapter might continue and amplify the intensity from the previous chapter if they didn’t make it all the way out yet (or Piggot calls for the bombers to target the escaping Undertravelers, though that’d be harder to excuse on the PR and governmental fronts).

Alternatively, we might be getting the Undertravelers reporting to the Protectorate (maybe even directly to Piggot) that we lived, bitches, and/or more development on Amy.

Or all of the above. When liveblogging, you can’t dismiss the possibility that it can be motherfucking BOTH THINGS.

I worry for Amy’s life. She’s currently not equipped to move anywhere near as fast as the Undertravelers, and they’ve passed her, so if they’re still in the blast zone, so is she. I’ve been getting the impression from asks (more vibes than actual outright spoilers) that she does not become a villain or a permanent aid to the Undertravelers. There are plenty of other reasons for that available, but maybe this is why.

Without further ado, let’s dodge some bombs!

Prey 14.4

Oink! Krixwell here, ready to read some more Worm!

So. Last time, the Protectorate showed up, and Piggot wants to talk to Lisa. I do not trust this in the slightest, knowing Piggot’s plans of backstabbing the villains of Brockton Bay. Even if the main topic on the surface is Siberian’s “creator”, she’s quite likely going to try to set up the situation that allows that backstab.

At least she’s talking to Tattletale, which might have some interesting results. Though as a downside, that probably means we’ll have to rely on context clues to tell what Piggot is saying as it happens, unless Lisa puts Taylor on the line for some reason. Hrm.

As for Siberian… their real body is, as far as we know, still in the crater, possibly suffering from whiplash (the car being invulnerable wouldn’t help against that), so unless the Protectorate, Wards and Undertravelers all spectacularly fail to pay attention to the crater, they can at least arrest the real body. Question then is whether they’ll be able to hold on to them with the Monochrome running around.

And that’s if Piggot doesn’t completely mess up the priorities here.

So yeah… let’s hear what the Jirector of the PRT has to say!

Prey 14.3

Howdy! Krixwell here, ready for some more bloggage!

So, how are we doing this… *turns page*

Prey 14.3. Alright, no Interlude, which means we’re probably starting off with the group we’ve been following arriving at the scene of the other group’s battle a little later than Siberian.

Before I go on to speculate further on how this will go, I do feel the need to note that I find this following reaction, to me mentioning that the low amount of asks increased the chance of me having a chapter session today, vaguely suspicious:

I might be reading too much into things, but it makes me feel like there’s something in this chapter that you guys have been waiting for me to reach. Color me intrigued.

Anyway, Siberian’s going to make a mess of things, as it seems the Undertravelers didn’t plan for this. I’m sure they had cooked up something decent (though it’s at short notice and they’re only half the team) for dealing with the four others, but Siberian throws a white-and-black-striped spanner in those works.

Which means the Undertravelers need to regroup and recover from the damage she’s doing, while also keeping Amy safe. Maybe the group we’ve been following could send Amy with a couple of their number and one of the dogs, back to Grue’s base? After she heals Taylor’s leg, of course.

Also, let’s not give the other members of the Nine too little credit. They’re all still significant threats too, though I doubt we’re getting stuck in Bonesaw’s grasp again. If the focus shifts to anyone other than Siberian in this Arc, it’s probably Crawler.

So yeah. Without further ado, let’s get into this brawl!

Actually, one last thing: I suppose it is possible that this chapter will focus on the immediate dealing with Amy and such before we go over to the others (or on the way there), but I’m still sure that at some point, assuming they do go there, we’ll see them arrive late to the mess Siberian is making.

Okay, now we can begin!

Prey 14.2

Howdy!

So, last chapter we figured out where Siberian is, and whom she’s mostly likely chasing. Let’s hope his idiocy takes time to kick in and he stays on the run for some time.

Well, idiocy might be the wrong word. Armsmaster is prideful, but he’s not a complete idiot. He probably has a plan, just not one that’s as likely to succeed as he thinks. And he might be ungrateful to the Undertravelers for messing with that plan.

That is if it doesn’t turn out I’ve been bamboozled. Or b-amy-boozled. :p

As for Siberian, I suspect they’ll be far harder to take out than the Undertravelers expected. The best tactic would be a surprise attack on their real body, but I think that would fail (possibly because Bonesaw has protected the real body against things like Taylor’s bugs), alert Siberian to their attackers, and cause the monochrome body to come to the real body’s defense.

Incidentally, this surprise attack is apparently supposed to be done by Taylor, who half-heartedly said she’d be able to deal with it at the end of the last chapter, so we’ll be running into the question of whether or not Taylor can bring herself to directly kill someone, even when the person in question is a monster.

So yeah… Let’s go hunting!

Prey 14.1

Another day, another chapter, another Arc! Howdy! It’s time to read some Worm!

Previously, this would be where I’d speculate on the Arc title, but I already did that for this one. I’ll probably be moving it to the Arc Thoughts in the future anyway, splitting the “next Arc speculations” section into pre and post reading the title.

So with that out of the way, I guess I should speculate on the specific chapter, huh?

First chapters in Arcs are almost as difficult to speculate on as Interludes, but at least I have a decent idea what I think the Arc is going to be about (though there’s probably way more to it than just “Siberian’s turn and probably Traveler backstory”), so that’s something.

I don’t think we’ll be jumping straight into Siberian’s hunt, though I don’t think we’re going to dawdle either. It is very possible that we’ll get one of the other remaining Nine’s turn first (probably Bonesaw in spite of her, ahem, handicap – devoting half an Arc to defeating her properly would follow on nicely from Snare, Jack’s supposed to go last though he might make an exception because of Bonesaw’s little problem, and there’s no way we’re dealing with Siberian and Crawler), too, transitioning into Siberian being the major threat in the latter half.

Of course, all of that might be complicated by the ongoing assaults on the Nine.

Anyway, that was a bit of a tangent. What I meant to go on to say is that we might start off with a lower-action chapter as Taylor attempts to deal with the mess Mannequin and Burnscar left in her territory and perhaps tries to make sense of what she and Brian want to be to each other.

So yeah, let’s have a look at what Prey has to offer!

As the predators lurk through Brockton Bay
We get on our knees and begin to pray
Let’s hold on tight for another day
To the feeble hope that we won’t be their Prey

Interlude 13

This is actually the 24th Interlude (not counting the bogus April Fool’s ones I added), but sure.

I literally just wrote this about an hour ago, but for the benefit of archival readers going back to this chapter’s tag later on:

Next chapter, I’m pretty sure we’re going into an Interlude. Who did I speculate on us reading the perspective of, again? Oh yeah, one of the Travelers. There’s been so many signs that we’re about to find out about their past that I suspect we’re going to find out before Taylor does, in the upcoming Interlude.

So what am I expecting, more specifically?

Hm. Maybe a bit of flashbacking, possibly put into contrast with how things are now among the Travelers, and a look at how they feel about having just been in Bonesaw’s clutches to save Grue. I don’t know what to expect regarding their actual backstory, but I do have my theory that it involves someone or something being after them, possibly Cauldron.

There’s also the question of which Traveler’s perspective we’d be following. I’m kind of hoping for Sundancer, though I certainly wouldn’t object to getting to know Ballistic a bit better either. Trickster seems most likely, though, since the personality underneath his facade was hinted at in the Arc.

Noelle would also be very interesting. See what all of this, and her situation, looks like from her perspective.

In short, I’d be up for anyone, but Trickster and, secondly, Noelle seem the most likely suspects.

If it’s any of them at all. If I drop that assumption, I have no clue who it’d be, though, and it’s more fun to speculate on the guess I do have.

So yeah! Let’s jump in and find out!

Snare 13.10

Let’s try to make an actual chapter intro post, shall we?

Howdy, everyone, Krixwell here! Contrary to what I said at the end of the, uh, first attempt, I do know how to read (or do I? plot twist???) and that’s what I intend to do tonight. I’m here with Snare 13.10, which I believe to be the wind-down chapter of the Arc proper, much like for example 4.11 or 12.8.

My expectations for this chapter haven’t really changed, so let’s let Pastwell do the talking, since he’s clearly more coherent than me:

Next chapter: The wind-down, I think. First they need to get out of here and fetch Regent and Bitch (Regent can let Genesis know she should dissolve via Shatterbird), though. We’ll likely learn more about Brian’s state, either from him or from Tattletale, and maybe hear Imp’s story from the horse’s mouth.

So yeah, let’s stop messing around (yeah right) and have a look at this chapter!
