Extermination 8.6

Hello, flesh beings.

I am Krixwell. That is my name. I am not a robot. Here, let me prove that.

Look. This is easy. This says…

Calculating…

Calculating…

Calculating…

You know what, it doesn’t matter. Let’s get on with it.

Accessing imported human memory bank…

Last time, Taylor saved at least some of the people at a shelter and got paralyzed from the waist down, Bitch’s heart was broken at least six times over, Scion showed up to scive the day and was really cool, and Taylor was taken to a hectic hospital and… possibly arrested by the PRT instead of treated.

This time, we’ll hopefully see whether that last part is true, learn a little bit more about what the hospital treatment (to whatever extent Taylor gets a treatment) is like, and possibly see what happens as Taylor and other villains get processed further by the PRT. Maybe we’re in for an interrogation scene.

Without further delay, let’s jump into it!’); DROP TABLE Blogs;–

Endbringer of Extermination 8.5

Phew. That was a pretty decent chapter. Taylor sneaking up and nanobotting the minikaiju in the butt was definitely a highlight, and Scion was awesome. 🙂

So now things are looking up and down at the same time. Up in that Scion showed up and Leviathan is on the run, and down in that Taylor has only one functional limb and might be getting arrested instead of treated.

I mean, I can understand why the PRT is doing this, but that doesn’t mean I like it. There’s a truce in place to fight the bigger enemy, and if we suppose Tattle was right about most of the parahuman antics being a game, then abusing such a truce to arrest people on the other side is cheating.

(It’s possible that they’re not actually doing this, and the manacles are just a precaution against villains creating chaos in the hospitals, but let’s be real – this story is not one where people should get the benefit of the doubt most of the time.)

And I don’t care what the Hippocratic Oath does or doesn’t say – medical personnel siding with the heroes and prioritizing them over the villains, to the point of possibly not treating the villains at all, is awful. Especially when the villains are there as a result of heroic work anyway.

Next chapter, Taylor hopefully gets some treatment. We’ll probably also learn more about the medical efforts surrounding this whole debacle, unless we don’t have time for that before Taylor gets hauled off to a PRT holding cell or interrogation room.

See you next time!

Extermination 8.5

OK, everyone! Welcome back to the Wormy-Wormy Literature Club, where everything is fun and cutesy!

Last chapter, Armsmaster was awesome for all the wrong reasons. Then he lost an arm and became simply Armmaster.

Also, Taylor found her calling in this battle, namely as a tracker for Leviathan. This chapter, we’re teaming up with a flier to do exactly that, which will probably allow us to watch some battles from the air without Taylor having to take part in them directly. Meanwhile, Leviathan appears to be heading for a shelter, possibly the one Danny is located in. If he gets there, things could get even nastier.

Without further ado – let’s go!

Endbringer of Extermination 8.4

This was great.

Armsmaster was fucking awesome in this chapter. Sure, he was underestimating Leviathan and being a prideful man seemingly only concerned with his reputation as usual, but he was genuinely a really badass fighter who provided us with what I believe to be the most visually cool fight so far in the story.

And, surprisingly, he didn’t actually die, in spite of about 3-5 different death flags. I doubt Wildbow is going to casually be like “oh btw Armsmaster bled to death” at the beginning of the next chapter, so I think he’s good for now, even if he’ll only be Armmaster from now on.

Meanwhile, Taylor finally found a way to help out! One that fits with what she’s been doing regularly ever since Agitation: Sticking bugs on people to track them. Along with the flier that was just assigned to Taylor, this also puts her in a position giving her an overview of the battle wherever it moves to.

Speaking of which, Leviathan appears to be moving towards one of the shelters. I should note that Danny’s also got a death flag or two on him (basically, if going for maximum angst for Taylor, it’d be a good time to kill him off just when he and Taylor have a conflict and she last saw him during a really stressful confrontation), though Armsmaster has just proven that such is survivable in this story.

So yeah. Next time, this bug is going flying! See you then! 🙂

Extermination 8.4

Hello everyone
Extermination eight point four
It’s time to survive!

Last time was quite bleak
By now most our hope is lost
Let’s wait for Scion.

People shall spread out
Will Taylor be alone this time?
Maybe, maybe not.

‘Least when we spread out
Taylor might find something to do
To protect the town?

Will I write haiku
Throughout the chapter? Prob’ly not
One way to find out!

Endbringer of Extermination 8.3

This was a good chapter, but damn was it bleak.

More than 42 people died in this chapter, and that’s only the ones whose announcements we got to hear. That includes Tattletale, one of my favorite characters, though I was prepared for that due to the overlap between Interlude 8 and this chapter.

I’m not gonna lie: This is not my idea of a good time. I know this is one of the Arcs where people decide if Worm is for them, and if the story as a whole continues being this kind of bleak without lighter points in between, it’s eventually going to start leaning more towards a no. That said, I’m not going to end the liveblog as long as I’m still invested enough to want to continue, which I still am.

(Don’t tell me if it gets brighter or stays this bleak. That’s a thing I’ll just have to see for myself.)

So. The plan is no longer to win, but to survive until Scion – who apparently never stopped saving the world for a moment to buy a damn phone – shows up. I guess we’ll see in the next chapter how that works out for the capes protecting Brockton Bay.

See you then.

Extermination 8.3

Ah, yes, there we go. There’s no “Interlude 8 (Bonus) Act 2″ or any bullshit like that. *glances over at Homestuck’s “Act 6 Act 5 Act 1 x2 Combo”*

Hi, everyone! It’s time for some more Endbringer action.

I think this chapter ought to let us know for sure what Tattle’s state is after the events of Interlude 8. If she’s dead (or badly hurt), the armbands will say so, and there’s no way Taylor won’t have a thing or two to think and feel about that. There’s a good chance the chapter will open with the announcement from Taylor’s armband if this is the case.

Other than that, Taylor needs to figure out exactly what she can do to help out in this battle. Oh, and maybe she’ll finally notice that she’s been subconsciously pulling in bugs and placing them around herself.

So, if everyone’s ready (I’m not sure I am)… let’s go find out if my favorite Undersider is dead.

Endbringer of Interlude 8 (Bonus)

Well. I got my Tattletale backstory, to some extent.

Problem is she might also be dead, with her dying thought being the one word she really took offense to, directed at herself. I’m not sure if she is, but if she is, this was a fantastically written exit. Beginnings and endings intertwined, the formation of a team and its breaking apart as the heart of it is washed off a building. The ironic echo of Tattletale calling herself stupid in the same chapter as a reminder of how much she hates being called stupid.

This chapter was brilliant and sad, and while I feebly hope she’s not dead, I have nothing but praise for the execution of it if she is.

Damn it, Wildbow, you’re good.

See you all next time.

Interlude 8 (Bonus)

Oh shit, that was unexpected.

Uh, hi! It’s time to livebagel some more Worm, but apparently we are not looking at Extermination 8.3 today like I thought. Instead we have Interlude 8, which… is a name that kinda bugs me. Interlude 3½ may be a pain to write on my computer and cause the numbering of the Interludes to be offset from the number of them (this is the ninth one), but at least it kept the sacred pattern of Arc N -> Interlude N -> Arc N+1 -> Interlude N+1 intact. Now it’s gonna be offset, assuming the pattern of Interludes between every Arc even keeps going… given recent shakings-up in the Arc structure department, though, maybe that’s an assumption I should be careful about making.

Anyway, who are we following today, I wonder? My first instinct is to say a civilian, to let us check up on those who are not fighting for the protection of the city – or at least, not with powers. If this civilian has managed to make their way to the shelters, I think we can expect to see how Danny is holding up.

…he doesn’t know where Taylor is. Poor man. Though I don’t think actually knowing would make him feel any better.

Another option is Dragon – it might be time to take a look at her feelings towards Leviathan – or… well, just so I don’t guess literally everyone, let’s limit it to the members of New Wave. Ooh, or the Guild? We know pretty much nothing about them, and they’ve only just popped up again after an offhanded mention in Insinuation, so it might be time to learn what they’re all about – although naturally whatever we see will most likely be framed in the context of this battle.

Oooh, Weld would be a neat one too, I think… okay, I’m gonna stop now so there can be some chance of me being wrong. Let’s just dive into it!

(A phrase that may be more relevant than ever in this Arc, I suppose.)

Endbringer of Extermination 8.2

So is this where we call in Godzilla to step on Leviathan and save the day? I dunno, I haven’t watched any of those monster vs. monster kaiju movies (or really any kaiju movies at all).

The battle has started and at least one formerly unnamed cape, WCM, is dead and many injured. Dang it, Timmy!

At least we’ve learned a lot about the Endbringers, finally. There are three of them: Behemoth, Leviathan and the Simurgh. Behemoth is the strongest one physically, the Simurgh is the most cunning one, and Leviathan balances the traits out more and has a focus on water. Leviathan’s known powers so far include monstrous form, macro scale hydrokinesis with extreme range and capacity, “water echo” leaving water behind every time he moves, high movement speed (especially when swimming) and possibly weather manipulation.

And Brockton Bay just so happens to be situated on a sinkhole-vulnerable aquifer. Great.

We’re certainly in for a ride here, folks!

Next chapter, Taylor needs to figure out what she’s supposed to do in this battle as her comrades fall around her. This won’t be easy.

See you then!
