“I don’t wear tights,” she said.

“I thought you could wear them under your pants if you were expecting a serious fight.  I gave you an inner layer with a really fine weave for the inner thighs, for when you’re riding, so there’s less chafing.”

Taylor Mode (Edna Hebert?) over here has clearly put a lot of thought into this.

“Uh huh.”

“I went out of my way to give you lots of pockets like you had in the other jacket.  I don’t think it’ll be too hot.  There’s zippers in the armpits so you can ventilate some cool air inside, and you can detach the hood if you want, but I liked how it looked with the fur.  I’m planning an inside liner for when it’s-”

Is Rachel about to call Taylor out on the fact that she didn’t ask for any of this?

“It’s fine,” she interrupted me.  “Stop talking.  It’s good.”

😀

I think that’s the closest we’ve ever gotten to a compliment from Rachel.

I rewatched the Incredibles 1 and when I saw Dash running through an insect swarm I immediately had to think about Taylor. How do you think the Incredibles would do up against either the Undersiders, the Wards, the Travelers, the Protectorate or the S9 in a fight?

Not incredibly.

By Worm standards, the Incredibles all have really basic powers, except for Jack-Jack, who is a baby and more often a liability than an asset despite his 17 or so different powers. I think Taylor alone could take most of them out without too much trouble. She might have some trouble with Dash, but it wouldn’t be her first time fighting a speedster.

In fact, apart from Jack-Jack, Helen is the only one with a main power Taylor hasn’t already been up against in some form. I suppose Violet also has her invisibility, but that’s nearly useless against Taylor if you’re not Mannequin.

Add to all this that three out of the five are quite inexperienced as fighters (and Bob tends towards pretty straightforward moves), and suddenly the Incredibles don’t seem all that incredible when pitted up against Worm capes.

Admittedly, Helen does show Worm-like creativity with her power from time to time, so there’s that. I definitely think she’s the biggest threat to any Wormverse opponents, though Jack-Jack’s wildcard behavior could also be a spanner in the works for the careful planning some of them are fond of.

Incredibles 2 review

The Incredibles left some massive footprints to fill, and the sequel filled them excellently. If you like the first movie, you should definitely watch the sequel. (And if you haven’t watched the first movie, you should watch both.)

Apart from the issue of the movie being somewhat inaccessible for people with photosensitivity issues, my only negative criticism is that the pacing was a little slow in the beginning. But the slow bits were essential and it does result in a good sense of building tension, so it’s not a huge issue.

The plot was engaging (if a bit muddied by a lot of subplots, though those were individually good as well), and the fights creative and well-choreographed. While the main plot had some basic similarities to the first movie, it was different enough to not feel like a rehash.

This movie is an excellent example of good sequel-making – it does something new with the original premise and expands on themes and elements from the original. It picks up things that were given less focus in the first movie and elaborates on them, without losing touch with the core themes.

So in summary: Good movie, excellent sequel, 9.5/10 stars!

Well in on AU-fanfic the Endbringers never show up among other spoilery things so parahumans are treated like the mutants in x-men. Taylor and Sophia have to put aside their differences to avoid the all-parahuman Birdcage pretty much in the first chapter. It was a pretty decent fic with 270k words. Sadly it will take some time until getting you fic-recommendations makes sense but I’m letting you know it exists.

Huh, that sounds pretty cool!

I wonder how the Birdcage exists if parahumans are hunted down and Leviathan never destroyed Newfoundland. I guess maybe Dragon’s creator has been arrested and forced to use his talents to make the Birdcage possible, and then maybe placed in it himself (though putting the involuntary designer of a prison inside that prison is a stupid move)?

There is a fanfic that puts Mr. Incredible and Frozone in the Wormverse.

Nice. I suppose they’d be fairly basic heroes here, though perhaps unused to the way the Wormverse handles capes if it’s a matter of them traveling there from their home world.

The reverse honestly sounds more interesting, provided it takes place before the events of the movies.

“All that said, ‘Worm but superheroes are driven into hiding by the government á là The Incredibles” would probably be a pretty cool AU.’” Such fanfictions do exist. One even has about a hundred chapters and a sequel planned.

Liz, Liz, Liz! You need to tell Krix about Divided!
It’s not quite The Incredibles, but I think it’s close enough, what with the government chasing Parahumans into hiding.

Cool! I wonder if these are the same one the first ask mentioned, the 270k long one.

(Also I feel like I should clarify that the Incredibles-like hiding I’m talking about is with the government’s help, rather than persecution. It’s more like a witness protection program.)

I just rewatched The Incredibles in preparation for seeing the sequel at the cinema when it finally comes here in about a week (no spoilers for that, please).

While watching the early parts of the movie, I kept silently comparing the movie’s setting/premise to Worm, more specifically Emily Piggot.

For those unfamiliar with Incredibles backstory: In the 40’s, superheroes were fairly common, but after a 1947 incident involving a suicidal man suing the hero who rescued him (“I saved your life!” “You ruined my death!”), many collateral damage lawsuits cropped up. Public opinion of the supers dropped so hard that the government chose to force them into hiding, abandoning superheroics (though some heroes still did their thing in secret) and living normal lives like normal people. The movie’s main plot is set in 1962 and follows a family of two retired supers and their kids.

This can’t happen in the Wormverse, because supervillains are much more common there and there’s the Endbringers (and a bigger future threat) to contend with. As things stand, no one with any sense would suggest that getting rid of superheroes (just the heroes) would be a service to the greater good of the mundanes.

If not for those things, it does seem like a future Jirector Piggot would appreciate. Letting the parahumans keep their abilities to themselves and out of the mundanes’ lives, aided and restrained by the government, sounds like a dream for her.

But because that’s not an option, she does the next best thing, which ironically is to make sure the government-controlled superheroes’ PR stays positive, and do her best to help them get rid of the supervillains by all means necessary. She can’t help the mundanes be free of all parahuman influence, but she can help the more lawful parahumans free them of the most detrimental of it.

If she could finally put an end to supervillains and Endbringers somehow, then her focus might change.

I’m not sure how clear I’ve been about this so far, but I think the perspective shown in Interlude 13 turned Director Emily Piggot into a very interesting spanner to throw into this story’s conflicts.

Legend nodded, but he didn’t respond right away.  He stepped forward to open a door for her.

“Everyone’s alright?” he asked, at last.

There’s a tendency for powers to be used by accident shortly after being gained, possibly going haywire. And this one got their power at age five. Yeeeah, better hope.

“No.  But no casualties.  The parents were outed in the chaos.”

I guess they used their powers in order to try to contain what their kid was doing, without care for the fact they were out of costume.

“Sobering.”

She nodded.  “The perils of being a superhero parent.  Your child isn’t a third generation cape, I know, but there are always risks.  Still, I envy you.”
